The unabated increase in the cost of food in Latin America and the Caribbean

Food prices have been increasing in Latin America and the Caribbean since before the onset of the pandemic and growing at a faster rate compared to other regions. As a consequence, between 2019 and 2021, hunger in the region increased by 13.2 million people. What kind of policies should countries implement to address a potential food security and hunger crisis? Find it out here, in this new #GraphFor Thought.

Lowest-income households are disproportionately affected, due to their larger allocation of budget towards food expenses.

Vulnerable populations spend up to 50% of their budget on food, while higher-income people, spend less than 17%: inflation does not affect all households in the same way. Read more about this relevant topic in this new #GraphFor Thought.
How effective are communication campaigns that promote migrants’ integration in the countries of the region? What are the most suitable strategies to deal with xenophobia and misperceptions towards migrants? These are some of the questions that the book "A better world for migrants in Latin America and the Caribbean", the result of a joint research initiative between the IDB and UNDP, seeks to answer. We warmly invite you to join us during its launch event.
